You don’t know the first thing about tomorrow. You’re nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, “If the Master wills it and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that.” (James 4:14-15 The Message)
The greater St. Louis metro area has been a great place to live and raise a family. But even as empty nesters, we still love to explore St. Louis. And I’m not just biased because we live here; St. Louis recently ranked in the 10 Best Cities for a Summer Staycation. As summer knocks on our door this week, and I have time to make some plans, I pulled out my St. Louis guidebooks to see what places I might like to check out this year.
We moved here about 23 years ago, and there are still places I have yet to enjoy. St. Louis is well known for the Arch, but also free museums and the zoo in Forest Park. We have my favorite botanical gardens. Free Shakespeare in Forest Park. Free summer concert series at several parks in the area. Free movies on Art Hill below our Art Museum. Many hiking and biking trails, both urban and rural. Several waterparks, including the one in our neighborhood, Aquaport. We have four rivers in the area for watersports. The list goes on and on. Golf courses, county and state parks, city parks with fountains and sculptures and festivals galore.
Here are five venues, I have yet to visit and hope to get out to see this summer:
