Sightings of Goodness

What, what would have become of me had I not believed that I would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living! (Psalm 27:13 AMP)

Sometimes life just doesn’t unfold like I’ve planned. This past weekend, it all started with a bee sting.

My plan was to run six miles with my friend. (We are training for a half marathon to celebrate our half century of life.) We don’t want to feel our age. Lol.

I was up early Saturday morning, so I decided to check my veggie garden. As I closed the gate, I felt a pinch inside my garden clog. I removed it and a bee was clinging to my big toe. I pulled it off and applied some mud. I hobbled to the house muttering to myself, “There goes my training run.” After applying some ice and taking Advil, I texted my friend to see if we could ride bikes instead. She agreed.

It was a gorgeous morning, so we decided to take a longer ride to a quaint coffee shop and treat ourselves to breakfast for being such awesome women and mothers.

We both have adult kids and were lamenting how Mother’s Day really isn’t for us, but for our mothers or mother-in-laws. Since we weren’t feeling our age, we pedaled with glee shouting to each other how awesome we are!

Then my friend noticed she had a flat tire. We planned to fix her tire and continue on our way. Except we didn’t have the right tube in our bike bags. We did have our cell phones, so we called in the husbands. Mine answered first and happens to keep an ample supply of spare bike parts in our basement. He brought us the tube and replaced it for her. (We did impress ourselves by taking the tire off and removing the busted tube by ourselves.)

We ended up having a wonderful breakfast and logged 20 miles on the bikes. And the rest of the weekend, we each had our own special Mother’s Day with our kids and moms.

Here are some weekend snapshots of the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living:

I understand about things turning out different than planned. I am living it and will continue to do so until next week at the earliest. Short version:Fell. In a lot of pain, Went to the NP. Xrays showed broken rib, chest xray revealed scarrring on lung. Redo chest picture early next week. In the meantime: no fancy things like bending over, climbing basement stairs or lying on my left side to sleep.

    1. Praying that you will be healing quickly and sighting God’s goodness in the middle of this trial…
