SEEK

My soul yearns for you in the night,
    my spirit within me earnestly seeks you. (Isaiah 26:9a NRSV)

godart027

In Brother Lawrence’s third conversation with his visitor, he explains the foundation of his practice of seeking GOD continually, and the gentle grace of turning back to God after a period of neglect.

” . . .that the foundation of the spiritual life in him had been a high notion and esteem of GOD in faith; which when he had once well conceived, he had no other care at first, but faithfully to reject every other thought, that he might perform all his actions for the love of GOD. That sometimes he had not thought of GOD for a good while, he did not disquiet himself for it; but after having acknowledged his wretchedness to GOD, he returned to Him with so much the greater trust in Him . . .”

His awareness of his wretchedness in forgetting GOD, compels him to seek GOD all the more. He goes on to share the joys of trusting GOD.

“That the trust we put in GOD honours him much, and draws down great graces.”

To seek GOD is to trust Him. To trust GOD is to love Him. To love GOD is to seek Him.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart;
    don’t try to figure out everything on your own.
Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go;
    he’s the one who will keep you on track.

(Proverbs 3:5-6 The Message)

    This is so fun, and yes, you are a seeker….and an idea generator. Am so enjoying this series. It still staggers me how quickly you create these collages, and I now I know the “red” secret! =]
    Love you,
    Lynni

    1. Lynni- Thank you for your affirming words! Seeking GOD is my greatest desire…and the best thing is that He wants to be sought by all! For me the “qucikness” of my process is a strategy for me to over come my inner critic who taunts me…telling me this or that won’t work…if I go fast I confound the critic…also the quickness of the process lends to the discoveries and surprises on the page…I take more time when I add the color and when I meditate on what surfaces on the page that leads me to the insights for the day…more on that in a later post…shhhh….don’t give away my blog process secret 🙂

  2. Kel, thank you for this posting!!! It was so timely for me. You are very gifted in your writings, art and ability to inspire. What is the “red” secret? No fair talking about a secret on here… wanna share?

    1. Fran- I am so thankful that God uses these offerings in timely and meaningful ways…it really isn’t a secret….Lynn thought I colored the background first, but I actually color around and over the magazine images to get the effect…I use these really cool water color crayons called Caran d’ache Neocolor II, they are sold at artmart and dick blick…but the work like crayons/creamy pastels and you can release the color with water on a brush or a baby wipe…very versatile…

      Would love to hear more about what insights surfaced for you…

    Lovely collage, and feels very Advent-ish to me. Those are two special verses too, feel quite poignant to me today and approaching Advent too.

    1. Victoria- I love your obeservation about the Advent-ishness of this page…this one and the day before and the one I’ll post later today are leading me towards Advent{ures} coming in November and December…I usually post reflections on Advent in December, and with your blog (expectatnlylistening) and the Pause, Ponder and Prepare blog, I sense the Holy Spirit preparing us all for a wonderful season of reflection upon our Savior…

        Yes, it feels like a particularly special time is coming this year…well done on keeping up with 31 days, it’s an impressive posting record!

  4. Ha, about the secret, and yes, I think we’d all love to know more about your process. And am I correct to think (from Innisfree experience), that you quickly rifled through mags, just cutting/ripping out what pleased you visually, and started gluing down, without too much forethought….and then let what emerged speak, rather than the other way around?

I love a dialogue. Be the first to start a discussion!
