GOD+ART (DAY 13)

The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

(Lamentations 3:24 KJV)

godart013

It’s a simple goal: to maintain a continual conversation with GOD. Yet life complicates my best intentions.

I wake up wanting a leisurely, appointment free day to just converse with GOD. To listen, to read, to play with collage and paint.

I start grumbling under my breath. And the Spirit gently reminds me that it takes two to converse, so why not tell GOD all about my schedule, my ideas and even take a breathe or two to pause and listen.

Remember to express gratitude. Just open to Yahweh. And be together.

Brother Lawrence gets this:

“That we ought to act with GOD in the greatest simplicity, speaking to Him frankly and plainly, and imploring His assistance in our affairs, just as they happen.”

So, I go to the annual physical and drop off a donation at the Goodwill with a renewed awareness of God’s companionship.

I talk to Him about the collage. He “points” to a magazine sticking out of the stack. It has a conversation bubble and the words “Let’s Talk” in there. A fruit stand, a sun setting over the open highway and abstract art that I tear out to glue down.

The conversation pieces become a visual reminder that GOD wants to talk with me. Talk with me about His mercy new every moment. Talk with me about habits and ways of relating that need His assistance to change. To tell me how much He loves me, enjoys me and that He has hopes for me.

During our conversation, I start adding color and sparkle to the page. I use a technique of tracing a silhouette onto a book page. (I traced Lamentations 3 from a KJV Bible that I gave myself permission to use in my ART expressions.)

What a sweet conversation, I had with GOD today. The LORD is my portion and in Him will I hope!

What saith your soul today?

  1. Beautiful visual reminder of the relationship God desires to have with us. I have loved following your 31 days. It is fun to see what God reveals when we listen and express ourselves through art and writing. You always encourage me to keep the communication line open…<3

    1. Thanks Kelly! I have enjoyed leaning in closer to GOD with collage and Brother Lawrence….so inspiring and relaxing…and good conversation starters 🙂 Love your prayerful heart! See you soon!

  2. You know, I love your collage, and I love your message even more! Yes, it’s rather amazing, isn’t it, that the Almighty God of the universe wants to be friends? And have a conversation with us?? It’s such a wonderful privilege and blessing to talk to Him!!

My soul *saith* today that no matter how old I might be getting, the Lord still has a purpose for me. May I be faithful in listening to what He tells me, and then obedient in my actions!

    GOD BLESS!

    1. Thanks for stopping by Sharon! What a great affirmation from God that His purpose for you stands firm …I love how He speaks to us in various ways and especially in His WORD!

Happy Living! And Growing Older! Blessings-Kel

  3. Good, good! The listening part is where I get hung up more often than not. I so want to be in His ways for my life. I am getting messages today about slowing down. Hello!!

    1. Yes the first thing I read today was Be Still and Know…listening is hard, that’s why I kept the second dialogue bubble empty…it could indicate listening or maybe another time I could write a praise or thanks to God in there…but cultivating a listening heart is part of my aim in this adventure with God

I love this image, and I can tell from the warmth in your words that you had a special prayer time (all day) today. A lovely post to dwell on.

    1. Thanks! This practice of praying all day is good for the soul! I still have many things to do today, but I am aware of God’s presence and leading as I go!

  5. Your art is absolutely beautiful!! I love this. And I love Brother Lawrence. xoxo

    1. Lisa- Thanks for stopping by! And your kind encouragement! Brother Lawrence is truly an inspiration!

  6. I’m loving this 31 days too, Kel. You are making my fingers itch to make something! Lovely, lovely work.

    1. Laura-I’m so glad you’ve joined us! I would hear how God inspires you in your making adventures! I am waiting “patiently” for your book to arrive in the mail!

  7. Kel, I’ll send you a few more photos of my art play soon. You still inspire. (Btw, spent some time poring over Lamentations 3 yesterday and journaled about it. Love the little ‘sacred echoes’ here.)

    1. Jody- I love how God does weave the “sacred echoes’ into our daily encounters with Him and others. I can’t wait to see the fruit of your art play! Go GOD! Go ART! Go JODY!

I love a dialogue. Be the first to start a discussion!
