Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
(Matthew 11:29 NLT)
You will find rest, Jesus promises, as He invites us to pair up with him, to be yoked together in a collaborative relationship. Our gentle leader longs to teach us, mentor us, take us under his wing. Contemplating what this promised rest might look like, I think of Brother Lawrence. His practice of continual conversation seems key to a restful life.
He was once asked how he “attained such an habitual sense of GOD.”
He answered like this:
” . . . he had considered GOD as the end of all his thoughts and desires, as the mark to which they should tend, and in which they should terminate.”
GOD was ever his thought and desire. GOD was his resting place, his contentment, his fulfillment, his goal, his achievement, his purpose.
Everything that I could want in this life leads me back to GOD.
I am searching. And Jesus is teaching. And He says, “Come to me. Find rest.”
How do you define REST?
Wow – love this collage – so colorful. And the message – so well, peace-bearing. ❤
I love the smiles of the the two people…they seem so relaxed and restful!
God used that verse to tell me just to come to Jesus to learn from Him and put away books for awhile. Very hard for me to do, but I did find rest. Love this collage! Are these all mag images, or are some drawn? How many mags do you have?!
Yes…Jesus invites us to rest from many things…I remember your radical sabbatical from books, but it produced much fruit, yes? All the images are from magazines…I outlined some of the images with a water soluble black pencil…I have MANY magazines…:)
