He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

“It is finished!” Jesus proclaimed his own victory from the cross. Death has been undone; Jesus finished off death. Yet death lingers in the air. Death still seems to be winning this side of the cross. Physical death comes in waves. Death still stings. So what’s the difference this side of the cross?

Jesus ushered in a new kind of life. Resurrection life. Life which cannot be swallowed up by forever death. No more eternal separation because of broken, stubborn hearts. Immortality re-entered the world through the death of Jesus. Death has an expiration date. The day Jesus re-turns, death dies!

Let’s re-joice in this hope! Let’s re-mind ourselves daily of His unfailing, unchangeable love! Let’s re-store our passion for sharing the good news!

Easter is celebrated on a Sunday, but also it’s a new season on the liturgical calendar. Fifty days of re-membering, re-visiting what just happened, relying on God’s promise to send the Helper culminating in the fresh power of Pentecost!
